Paris (dpa) – The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation after a fatal knife attack on a French woman in Morocco.
The 78-year-old French woman was attacked with a sharp weapon and fatally injured on Saturday at a market in Tiznit, Morocco, the investigating authority announced in Paris on Wednesday evening.
A preliminary investigation into a possible terrorist attack has been launched. The Moroccan Prosecutor General’s Office is also investigating suspected terrorism.
As reported by BFMTV, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested in nearby Agadir.
The arrested man had also tried to kill a Belgian woman in Agadir with a sharp weapon on Saturday, the broadcaster reported, referring to the Moroccan police.
The Belgian woman was taken to a hospital injured, but her life was not in danger.
After the attack on the French woman, the French embassy urged tourists to be careful when travelling and in public places in Morocco.
