Bucharest (dpa-AFX) – Romania’s trade deficit widened in August, figures from the National Institute of Statistics showed on Monday.
The trade deficit increased to 1.8 billion euros (2 billion dollars) in August from 1.5 billion euros in the same month last year. In July, the trade deficit stood at 2.2 billion euros.
Exports rose 23.3 per cent annually in August, after a 14.6-per-cent growth in July. Imports gained 21.1 per cent yearly in August, after a 24.3-per-cent rise in the previous month.
For the January to August period, the trade deficit was 14.6 billion euros. Exports rose 24.4 per cent and imports rose 24.9 per cent.
