Buenos Aires (dpa) – Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez tested positive on Tuesday for the coronavirus, the nation’s Health Ministry announced.
The 50-year-old head of state only has mild symptoms and is in isolation, the ministry said. He has been vaccinated twice.
A few days ago, Abdo’s wife tested positive for the coronavirus.
The number of infections in Paraguay had risen sharply recently. So far, almost 500,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus and almost 17,000 have died in connection with Covid-19.
About 42 per cent of the population is vaccinated.
