Washington (dpa) – US President Joe Biden has proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin they hold a summit in the coming months, the White House said on Tuesday.
Biden suggested during a phone call that their meeting could take place «in a third country» to discuss «the full range of issues facing the United States and Russia,» a statement said.
Washington has accused Moscow of election interference and cyberattacks. The Biden administration also recently imposed sanctions on Russia over the poisoning of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
Tensions have risen in recent days over the amassing of Russian troops near Ukraine’s borders.
During the phone call, Biden voiced «concerns over the sudden Russian military build-up in occupied Crimea and on Ukraine’s borders, and called on Russia to de-escalate tensions,» the White House said.
