The general secretary and parliamentary spokesman of FORO Asturias in the General Assembly, Adrián Pumares, asked the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, this week in the plenary session about «what measures he plans to promote in the remainder of the legislature to ensure that investment in R&D reaches 3% of GDP in the Principality over the next decade, as proposed in the Asturias Industrial Strategy 2030».
«Mr Barbón, we call on you to transfer the competences of Industry to the Minister of Science, Borja Sánchez, since the emergency situation that Asturian industry is going through does not allow any more indolence or disrespect», said Pumares.
The parliamentary spokesman added that FORO Asturias agrees with the aim of reaching 3% investment in R&D by 2030, «but the reality is that according to data from the Annual Report of the Cotec Foundation, Asturias is the fourth region furthest from its level of investment in R&D in relation to the pre-crisis moment of 2008».
He also pointed out that in other areas, such as culture and the environment, «in the field of science it is essential to encourage private investment and promote public-private collaboration».
Finally, Pumares said that the Minister of Industry has disrespected everyone, «the members of this House, industry, employers and trade unions, ignoring their problems, not attending to their claims or taking into account their needs».
